<image:title>AFG Gallery - "Faksin i da sea" "Long high, goam-crested wave" by Janette Kerr</image:title>
<image:caption>About Janette Kerr : Delighting in sudden and unpredictable changes in the weather, Janette Kerr is a painter of the northern landscape – a foul-weather painter who enjoys being out in, and working from the landscape at its extremes. ‘My paintings’, writes Kerr, ‘are about movement and the rhythms of sea and wind, swelling and breaking waves, the merging of spray with air, advancing rain and mist, glancing sunlight - elements that seem to be about something intangible.’ While spending most of her time painting Shetland seas, she also travels extensively - always to wild weather-scoured places - in 2016 sailing along the coast of Svalbard in the High Arctic on board a tall ship called the Antigua with a group of international artists, and walking in snow storms on an international residency in Skagastrond, NW Iceland during 2020. In 2022 she spent 2 months in Greenland, living in a remote settlement called Oqaatsut. Janette Kerr is an Academician and past president of the Royal West of England Academy of Art, and an Honorary Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy of Art. She exhibits regularly in the UK and has work in private and public collections, both nationally and internationally. She has received Art Council funding for her research and development projects, and won several awards. Artist’s statement : These paintings are inspired by my sketchbook drawings and paintings made en-plein-air in Shetland. The paintings are created by working in oil paint on a white gesso base, using brushes, palette knives and even fingers. Building the paint in layers, wiping back and adding more paint, sometimes drawing into the wet paint. As I’m painting on the boards the small sketches are there, lying around the studio, reminding me of the places I was in. So the final paintings are less about making a painting of a seascape but rather about a sense of being surrounded by the sea – where I can feel, smell, and even taste it.</image:caption>

      <image:title>AFG Gallery - "Untitled 1" by Ottograph</image:title>
<image:caption>About Ottograph : Ottograph, a large-scale muralist, has been slinging paint since the age of ten. Starting out in Amsterdam, where he is from, and then moving on to become an internationally sought after artist, Ottograph has established himself squarely in the middle of the global street and graffiti art movement. Simultaneously though, Ottograph has bridged the fine art gap with his work, an advantage that comes with age and time dedicated to painting. The Modern Art Museum of Antwerpen (Belgium) is home to a giant Ottograph mural. Otto also painted murals in Moscow, Tokyo, Berlin New York and San Fancisco. Ottograph’s contribution to street art extends beyond his own work, as he is also a community leader, having organized several cooperative painting commissions and operating the website “I Paint Everyday” www. ipainteveryday.com to encourage the tedious, yet necessary practice of serious painting. Ottograph has worked for clients like Greenpeace, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Mars, Ford, and Merecedes-Benz.</image:caption>

<image:caption>About José Carcavilla : After working for several years as an art director in advertising agencies in Chile and Spain, Jose decided to take an independent path in his career. As an illustrator, he channeled his creativity passionately and freely, allowing him to explore art in its purest form. “As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved to draw“, says Jose Carcavilla. A passionate self-taught artist, his love of illustration and artistic creation has led him on a constant journey of learning and exploration. His work has been exhibited in various galleries, he has participated in design projects, collaborated with publishing houses and audiovisual projects. His interest in illustration and design has made him a versatile artist in high demand in the creative industry. José immerses himself in his creative process without restriction, letting his pencil and imagination guide him. In his world, a palette of vibrant colors unfolds, along with fantastical creatures and scenes with a touch of humor that adds pleasure to every stroke of the pencil. Through his art, Jose Carcavilla invites us to explore a universe full of imagination and originality. Artist statement : A few weeks ago, I was invited to collaborate with ArtFlip, an exciting art project that consists of painting skateboards. Inspired by the energy and freedom that skateboarding represents, each of the three boards share a common theme: fluidity, a free and spontaneous stroke that symbolizes unrestricted movement. I used a vibrant color palette and mixed media, from acrylics to sprays, to give texture and depth to the images, capturing the sense of dynamism and the beauty of continuous flow. The result is a collection of boards that are not only functional, but also true pieces of art on wheels. This project not only allowed me to explore my creativity, but also to connect with skate culture in a more personal and expressive way.</image:caption>

      <image:title>AFG Gallery - "Guardian 1" by Loor Nicolas</image:title>
<image:caption>About Loor Nicolas : I’m Loor Nicolas, and I was born in the vibrant country of Ecuador. When I was just 9 years old, my family made the significant move to the bustling city of Barcelona, where my artistic journey began to flourish. I currently work primarily as a tattoo artist, although I also embrace opportunities as an illustrator and graphic designer when the occasion arises. My unique style is a rich mixture of all my tastes and influences, which I have accumulated throughout my life, drawing from diverse realms such as music, comics, graphic design, and advertising illustration. All of these experiences converge in my work, particularly focusing on tattooing, which is my main profession today. The features that distinctly characterize my artistic work are the thick, clean strokes and vibrant, saturated colors that aim to catch the eye at first glance. However, once the viewer's gaze is captured, I take great pleasure in allowing them to discover the intricate small details embedded within my pieces. This approach helps me create a unique visual language that feels distinctly my own. I believe that anything that piques my interest, whether it be from the realm of art, culture, or nature, can be incorporated into my creations, allowing my work to continually evolve over time. Currently, I find myself particularly fascinated by the universe and the captivating world of science fiction. These themes give me a sense of freedom, as they open up a plethora of possibilities for me to fantasize and construct intriguing narratives within my artwork. Artist’s Statement : For the decks, I wanted to create an enchanting cosmos that artfully mixes elements of mysticism with intricate technological details that are typically found in the realm of science fiction. I find great inspiration in the idea of presenting an image that invites people to invent their own unique stories, complete with their own characters, conflicts, and twists. It brings me joy to think of my designs as a compelling starting point for everyone to explore their imagination, allowing them to craft their own comic, movie, or narrative in the vivid landscapes of their own minds.</image:caption>

      <image:title>AFG Gallery - "Guardian 2" by Loor Nicolas</image:title>

<image:caption>About Mutartis : As a kid, I was into many crazes and still enjoy picking up new things. In the late 70s, I got into the second wave of skateboarding that had spread across the UK and Europe from America. This coincided with the arrival of Punk Rock in my hometown of Frome in South West UK. The two were somehow related, with my favorite band, Devo, incorporating skate imagery and wearing Jofa helmets and pads on stage. Despite my lack of skill in skateboarding, I enjoyed the culture and turned my focus to drawing and visual art, which I was good at. Graffiti culture arrived in my area in the mid-eighties and captivated me. I embraced graffiti for the next couple of decades, initially trying to emulate the New York hip-hop style but eventually developing my own style by incorporating elements meaningful to me in rural West UK. Influenced by Punk and Goth culture, my graffiti blended anarchic elements, creating a unique fusion. I believe blending different styles is essential to creating new movements. My work started integrating darker, organic, rural elements that resonate with the current interest in folk and weird art. For a while now, I have been painting blank skateboard decks, using inks and spray paint directly on the wood and leaving the natural wood as a background. The long, upright scale of the decks suits my style well and is satisfying to work with. Artist’s statement : Recently, I collaborated with ArtFlip, an exciting art project involving painting skateboards. This allowed me to create three original works inspired by the energy and freedom of skateboarding. The boards have a theme of fluidity, represented by free and spontaneous lines symbolizing unrestricted movement. Using a bright color palette and mixed techniques, I captured the dynamism and beauty of continuous flow. This project allowed me to explore my creativity and connect with skate culture in a personal and expressive way.</image:caption>

      <image:title>AFG Gallery - "Eldricht fortress" by Mutartis</image:title>

<image:caption>About Mr. Chat : Thomas Vuille, born on July 16, 1977 in the canton of Neuchâtel, is a Franco-Swiss artist, known for his iconic character, Mr. Chat. He began painting with acrylics at the age of 15, inspired by his painter grandfather. After studying at the Institut des Arts Visuels d’Orléans from 1995 to 2001, Vuille created M. Chat in 1997, a yellow and orange cat, cheerful and benevolent with a broad smile. The idea for M. Chat was born during a workshop with children, where a little girl drew a cat that inspired Vuille. The cat became his emblem, and he began painting it on the walls of Orléans, then in other cities such as Paris, London, Geneva and New York. In 2003, white wings appeared on Mr. Chat, adding a magical dimension to his character. In 2004, filmmaker Chris Marker dedicated the TV film «Chats perchés» to him, which was shown at the Centre Pompidou. But in 2007, Vuille was arrested in flagrante delicto for graffiti in Orléans. and received a suspended fine, an event that raised his profile. Thomas Vuille’s work is distinguished by its clean style, clear lines and ability to adapt to different supports, from walls to streetcars. Mr. Chat, with his enigmatic smile, evokes the character of Lewis Carroll’s «Smiling Cat» in «Alice in Wonderland». M. Chat has also crossed the boundaries of urban art to enter the institutional realm. Vuille has created projects for a variety of organizations, including hospitals and public spaces, underlining the importance of art as a means of communication and social bonding. His work can be seen in cities around the world, including Paris, Orleans, Rennes, New York, London, Hong Kong and Sao Paulo. Recognized by leaders of the street art scene such as Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Space Invader , Mr. Chat has become a global icon. Vuille is invited to participate in urban art festivals and events around the world, sharing his experience and inspiring a new generation of artists.</image:caption>

A graduate in graphic design from the Université du Québec à Montréal, he now specialises in illustration and motion design. The nickname "Petitom", in homage to Mowgli, the "little man" from The Jungle Book, embodies the simplicity and childlike freedom characteristic of his work.Artistic director for 4 years for the clothing brand LE CARTEL, which has just arrived in the heart of Paris, Thomas now works full-time between commissions in visual art and selling his personal creations.Often using a reduced colour palette, Thomas emphasises the expressiveness of the drawing and the impact of the illustration's message. It is often with a desire to provoke laughter and always with a desire to get to the heart of the matter that Thomas shapes his visual space.Constantly evolving, Petitom's images are as much an invitation to reflect as they are a lively source of amusement. Artists statement : While flying remains one of humanity’s greatest fantasies, “Better skate than fly” elevates skateboarding beyond that primal temptation, linking flight to motion on four wheels. Simplicity, joy, and freedom color every movement here—like pure pigments of emotion.</image:caption>

<image:caption>About Alex Malcolmson : I was born in the picturesque Shetland Islands in 1955 and later had the privilege of studying drawing, painting, and printmaking at the esteemed Edinburgh College of Art. Following my education, I worked in the Northern Isles for several years, engaging in teaching, painting, and showcasing my art through various exhibitions. Eventually, I relocated back to Edinburgh to take on the role of curator for the Scottish Crafts Collection, which is now an integral part of the collection housed at The National Museum of Scotland. In 1985, I took a significant step forward by establishing Godfrey & Watt in Yorkshire, a gallery dedicated to exhibiting and promoting some of the finest work by talented artists and makers from across the UK. After a successful twenty-five years, I made the decision to close the original gallery located in Westminster Arcade in Harrogate; however, the essence of Godfrey & Watt continues to thrive. I still actively represent and exhibit work by a select group of exceptional artists and makers through the Godfrey & Watt online gallery, as well as through occasional curated exhibitions. My own artistic work has been showcased frequently at Godfrey & Watt, as well as in various exhibitions held in locations throughout the UK. The inspiration for my creations comes largely from sailing trips, the breathtaking scenery of the Northern Isles, and the engaging themes of marine folk art.</image:caption>

      <image:title>AFG Gallery - " Opponent " by Zépy</image:title>
<image:caption>About Zépy : Zépy from Haute-Savoie, where every peak and valley evokes a feeling of deep connection with nature. Every brush stroke, every pencil line, is imbued with this meditative energy that manifests itself in my work. Skateboarding is more than just a means of locomotion for me, it’s a form of expression. On my board, I feel total freedom, and it’s this feeling of freedom that I try to capture in my illustrations. The fluid movements of skateboarding are reflected in my lines and shapes, creating a dialogue between art and movement. My artistic style is deeply influenced by the aesthetics of tattooing. Traditional motifs, mystical symbols and organic elements are often found in my work. But what really sets my work apart is my passion for the dot style. Each dot is an invitation to delve into a world of meticulous detail, creating a unique texture and depth. Through my skate illustrations, I seek to convey a story, an emotion, or simply to capture a moment of ephemeral beauty. My art is a reflection of my personal journey, experiences and aspirations, and I hope it inspires others to explore their own creativity and freedom of expression.

<image:caption>About Julien Boubennec : Born in 1984 in Courbevoie, Julien Boubennec is an accomplished self-taught multi-technique artist. He creates spontaneously, aiming to rediscover the incredibly fascinating creative freedom reminiscent of childhood, without conforming to the confines of standard academic practices. Julien expresses himself through captivating black-and-white linocuts and vibrant acrylic canvases, which are composed of imaginative shapes and intriguing characters. His work draws on a wide range of diverse influences, including street art, pop art, and comic strips. This talented former gourmet chef made the decision to step down in 2019 to devote himself fully to following his passion for the visual arts. He has chosen the bustling streets as his playground in both France and Europe for showcasing his work, and he is collaborating with various partners such as Association Pompiers Raid Aventure, Paris Drouot auctions, Hôtel Pullman Tour Eiffel, and many others. Now based in the picturesque region of Creuse, he is developing exciting new projects that are as far-reaching as they are varied.</image:caption>
